Using ABLE 6.6 Webserver
1. Click on ABLE Webserver icon
2. Enter the account you want to access, if not already listed
3. Log in with your user ID and password.
Always click on File on the ABLE menu bar to log out to make sure settings are saved.
Never use the IE menu bar while in ABLE, because it will knock you out
of ABLE and lock up the item or title that was on the screen. Once locked, that item or title will not be accessible
until the next day when we reboot our system.
ABLE has an automatic purge that runs every weekend. It deletes Lots that were created more than 6
ago.
1. Click
on
2. Enter lot ID in space provided, then hit enter
3. Click on apply, then close
¨ With the Key (top left) set to Title: Text, enter 1st two letters of up to the 1st four words of the title in the space above the right arrow è
¨ Hit enter, to bring up the title, or select the correct title if a list is displayed
¨ Use the tab key to move between variables
¨
Enter variable information to the right of the
blue prompts (V, M, Y, Call #, etc.). If you happen to
inadvertently delete a variable, reenter it, making sure you highlight the
variable letter, then right click and select variable. The best way to correct
any error you make is to clear the screen by hitting F3 and start over. The Title record will come back without the
error.
¨ If special instructions are required, click on Collation to get to the Collation screen to enter extra special codes, or click on Instructions in the bottom right of the screen. If you use the Collation window, select options using the down arrow to the right of the field. If you are entering more than one extra special code, after you have selected a code, hit enter to create another code field. Use the Source field to select Title Record if you want the extra special to always be used with the title, otherwise the default is manual entry for one-time use for that binding. Click on Apply, then Close, then Update Title for permanent changes. If you use the Instruction window, enter instructions in the Bindery window (to permanently add them to the Title), then click on Apply, then Close. (Information entered into the Temporary will not be saved to the Title---this is for Once ONLY instructions). Instructions put into the LIBRARY tab, are for the library only—the bindery does not see these instructions—they will be saved when you update the record. If you want the instruction to stay with the item or title record, click on the update title button.
¨ Click on Add Item or hit Alt I to add item to lot
¨ Enter new variables if working with the same title, or click on Clear (F3) to clear the screen to start a new title search.
¨ Enter format code (02 for Standard periodical) in format space and hit enter with cursor still in the format window.
¨ Enter cover color codes and print color codes either by typing in, or selecting the code using the down arrow for the code
¨ Enter title in caps. with back slashes \ between words
The old version of ABLE,
still in the bindery, only has 13 lines of text allowable. So anything lower than that in the new ABLE
gets cut off when it is converted to ABLE bindery 5.0, and what is worse, when
you restore, it will update a periodical title without the information that was
cut off.
If you notice info. lower
than 13 lines from the top (across from the spine measurement), delete some of
the blank lines on the screen by putting the cursor in a blank line in the fnt
column and delete.
¨ Enter variables*
¨ Click on Cover Image/Cover Proof to view spine
¨ Click on Add Title or hit Alt T to add title
¨ Click on Add Item or hit Alt I to add item to lot
*If a new variable prompt is required, for example P for pages in level 8, type 8 in the level column below level 9, then type in P for pages to the right of the level and under the variable in level 10, then highlight the P with the left button on your mouse, then click on the right button of the mouse and click on variable.
Please note superscripts,
subscripts, accents, comments, cut, copy, and paste are created in the same way
by highlighting text, and right clicking to perform the action. The
Cut, Copy, Paste using the popup menu in the title area is ONLY for the special
cut, copy, paste operations for font/pitch/placement/level and text. If you want to copy/paste into ABLE from
another application, use the Edit menu or Ctrl-X, Ctrl-V, Ctrl-C.
If you use the delete key to delete information in the text area, and delete too much, it pulls the text in lower lines up, and out of sync with the levels. If that happens, it is best just to clear the screen and start over. A safer way to delete would be to highlight with your mouse and then hit the space bar.
